Stuff that I like.
| Treasure Trap
| This was the first love of many people at Birmingham University, and consisted of running about the local hills and forests dressed in fantasy/medieval costume. We then proceded to thrash seven bells out of each other with padded weapons and cast "spells" at one another. Technically, this is known as a live action role playing society ( LARP ), not lunacy. Great fun all round and we've become a bit of a local landmark at the week-ends. I still dress up and fight occasionally. This is me a few years ago as the Priest of the Knights of St. John at Summerfest, where thousands ( ? ) of Treasure Trap types ( also known as "Trappies" ) got together for a war. Neil Gaiman's Sandman Comic, now, sadly, defunct. This was the greatest comic/graphic novel that I've ever read, bar none. It inspired one of my favourite Treasure Trap characters, Gwydion ap Dôn, immortal earthly servant of Morpheus, Lord Dream. These stories have led to the creation of some of my favourite Web Sites as well. Look them up, sites and stories, you won't be sorry. The basic story idea is that before there were gods, worlds or anything else, there existed a family of beings called "The Endless". They were named Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delerium, who was once Delight. The collection of stories concentrated on Dream of The Endless and his realm. He seems to be the archetypal "goth", black clothes, pale face and a distinctly moody demeanor. But what characters inhabit Gaiman's worldview! My favourites are Delerium, a very spaced-out individual, and Matthew the Raven. Neil has just written a new story based in Japan, and out in hardback graphic novel / illustrated book form as of October 1999. Check your local bookshop for details. |

Hywel Phillips (see below) introduced these programs to me. With them you can draw pictures that your own artistic talent would not allow. Or at least I can, my drawings being slightly worse than Megan's, and she's only 11 months old! If you go to my Bryce & Terragen Gallery you can see some landscapes that I have created. They get better as you go down the page. Look out for more to follow, and have a look at Hywel's pages for more of the same, but better. |
