- I believe in the BBC

- A site that I just found, and I have to agree with.
Especially after talkSPORT bought the West Indies Cricket
coverage, ranted about how good their coverage was, so
much better than Test Match Special, and then didn't
broadcast the match on Saturdays. I like the BBC (and the
House of Lords), I must be getting old!

- Seti@Home

- This is a wonderful piece of internet teamwork. If you
haven't heard of it, it is a small software download that
works as a screensaver on Windows, Linux and Macintosh.
Every few days, it will take a new 250KB piece of
information from a radio telescope sweeping the skies,
and then try to analyse this to see if there is any sign
of regularity, or evidence of intelligence. It looks very
pretty, and if you are the person who finds evidence of
life out there, you can be famous! It is a hell of a lot
more fun than "Flying Windows™", and
could be useful to the world at large. I have joined the
team of "The Knights who say Ni!". They are one
of the biggest groups on the Seti web page, welcome
all-comers, and have a lot of links and good advice:

-
- Shields Up

- How safe is your computer? If you have reached this page,
then you probably spend a lot of time on the internet.
That being the case, you would probably benefit from
looking at this site. It will almost certainly scare you,
but then, everyone sometimes needs a good scare. There
are people out there who want to use your computer for
there own nefarious purposes, and they are a hell of a
lot cleverer than I am about how to take what they want.
-
- ZoneAlarm
- This is the software to help with the fear generated in
the link above! It is a free, effective firewall that is
so simple to set up that even I can manage it. It may not
be the best for users to tailor for their own
configuration, but for a quick, free fix, it does at
least help with your piece of mind. Well worth a look.
-
- Landmark Trust.

- This is the Landmark Trust Home Page. Newly discovered on
14th April 1998. It will improve over the next few
months, or so they promise. The Icon image is of Wortham
Manor, which 13 of us just stayed at for a week. It's
just in Devon, and even more beautiful in real life. My
pictures of our holiday homes can be reached here.
- Country Cottages

- On a similar note, this has just come to my attention. It
doesn't just cover England, although most sites are
there. Their web site is much, much more fully developed
than Landmark's, and they have lots of swimming pools on
their books!
- Terragen.

- This is the free program that Hywel and I both use for
some of our landscapes. It is a relatively small
download, but very worthwhile. Give it a go, but beware,
it will steal your spare time!
-
- Forester.

- This is in effect a plug-in for Terragen. It allows
objects to be placed in the scenes, most obviously trees,
but also rocks and boulders. With a little bit of talent,
just about anything can get into the images. Worth a
look, but it doesn't have the instant "hit" of
Terragen alone.
-
- The Dreaming.

- Probably the best lager in the world... no, but certainly
my favourite Sandman page. Lots of links to the world of
Neil Gaiman.
-
- Cricket Online.

- One of my favourite sites. It's lovely to be able to keep
up to date with the Test Series while the TV is being
used to watch something else! You used to be able to
watch the live broadcasts or listen to Radio 4
commentary, but alas, that seems to be no more. Shame,
that.
-
- Real Player

- This is a superb little piece of kit to download. The
most modern version allows you to save a movie or sound
clip. The FREE version, however, allows streaming audio
and video to be watched on a decent speed modem. Radio
programs, police radio, and TV shows of various types are
out there if you look. It kicks in automatically if
needed.
-
- CD Valet.

- This is a little CD music player with a superb bonus. If
you insert an unknown CD into the computer, it will
contact a database and download the track listings and
other information. I heard of this from Ian Kirk, so the
bulk of the thanks should be directed his way. If you go
to the site, you can download a month's demo copy.
Purchase price is about $10.00, depending on payment
method. It may not be essential, but it is tremendous
fun!
Pershore
Road and Trap Links.
- Pershore Road
Web Site.

- I now host the Pershore
Road pages at this address. I hope to add more to Hywel's
original site, to explain once again the true grandeur
that was.....
572
Pershore Road!
- Arwen's Home Page.

- Arwen has been a member of the Pershore Rd. clique for
nearly as long as me. This page is nearly exclusively
devoted to Kaelan, her son and will soon have stuff on
the new baby as well. More on them, and pictures of Arwen
elsewhere in these pages - here,
in fact.
-
- Hywel & then
Hobbit's Home Pages.

- Hywel & Hobbit were founder members of the
"Pershore Rd. Mob". Hywel is now an
international jetsetting physics boffin and lecturer. His
site has info on that house and its sequel. Hywel is also
the creator of most of our role-playing campaigns and a
great chef. He also introduced me to Bryce
and its friends. Hobbit is his wife, a creative genius -
she can make anything superbly. I have now succeeded in
persuading them to have separate homepages.
-
- Ian Kirk's Home Page.

- Ian is responsible (?) for inspiring this page.He used to
be a physicist, but like most of his ilk has now
descended into computer programming to make a living. At
the height of his powers as a physicist, he chanced to
walk past a bonfire and described it as "low energy
plasma", before realising that he'd been working too
hard! He has more Pershore Rd. info and links to Alathar
! Alathar is Ian's spectacular alter-ego, a (mad )
wizard, also a spawn of Treasure Trap.
-
- Wayland's Forge.

- Roj is technically a member of the Pershore Rd mob, and
has been managing various role-playing shops in the West
Midlands for several years. He was recently fired for no
readily explained reason from Dungeons and Starships in
Birmingham. Please don't buy from them, they do not
deserve your custom. He and Bel, his wife, are now trying
to set up their own shop, but D&S are threatening
suppliers into not trading with them. They soldier on
regardless, please visit their site and BUY, BUY, BUY!
-
- Treasure Trap Home Page
.

- Find out more about how to swing a rubber sword. Also has
some links to LARP societies elsewhere, maybe there's one
near you! This has been improving over the last year or
so, and now has all the information you could possibly
want. It keeps trappies informed around the world, and
replaces information from the experienced old hands for
newcomers! This makes me and even younger generations
somewhat surplus to requirements. There is also a treasure
trap society at Durham University, UK. It has similar
origins to our mob, and can be found here.

-
- 1000A.D. Home Page.

- Chris Matterface is a trappy of many years standing, as
well as being our resident expert on Latin poetry. He is
also an extremely talented comic book artist. His work in
1000A.D. gives a flavour of Trap, although in reality we
are neither so muscular, nor ruggedly handsome.
-
- Castles.Org

- I recently found this site, it has castles around the
world for sale or rent, amongst other delights. Most of
my friends would be willing to sacrifice large amounts of
money, blood, soul, etc... for such a treasure. If you
buy one, remember where you heard it first, and send me
an invitation.
